The Dhaulagiri Sanctuary Trails refer to the trekking routes that lead to the Dhaulagiri Sanctuary, a stunning and remote region in the western part of Nepal. Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain in the world, standing at an elevation of 8,167 meters (26,795 feet).
The sanctuary trails offer trekkers a chance to explore the rugged and breathtaking landscapes of the Dhaulagiri region, which is characterized by high mountain peaks, glaciers, deep valleys, and alpine meadows. The trails pass through remote villages, ancient forests, and moraine fields, providing a diverse and challenging trekking experience.
The most popular route in the Dhaulagiri Sanctuary area is the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trekking, which circumnavigates the entire Dhaulagiri massif. The trek usually starts from Beni or Darbang and follows the Myagdi Khola River and then crosses the French Pass (5,360 meters) and the Dhampus Pass (5,234 meters) before descending to the Kali Gandaki Valley.
The Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is a challenging and demanding trek that requires prior experience in high-altitude trekking. Trekkers need to be well-prepared and physically fit to undertake this adventure. It usually takes around three weeks to complete the full circuit, but shorter variations of the trek are also possible.
During the around Dhaulagiri trek, trekkers are treated to breathtaking views of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri, and other surrounding peaks. The Annapurna region is also rich in biodiversity, and trekkers may encounter various wildlife, including Himalayan Tahr, musk deer, and several species of birds.
As the Dhaulagiri Sanctuary Trails are located in a remote and less-visited area of Nepal, trekkers can enjoy a pristine and off-the-beaten-path experience. It is essential to arrange a licensed guide and necessary permits before embarking on the trek. Our Local trekking agencies can provide the required support and guidance for a safe and memorable adventure in the Dhaulagiri area.
