Mount Everest is located on the border between Nepal and Tibet (China). While the peak of Mount Everest itself is on the Tibetan side, the most popular and accessible routes to view Mount Everest are from the Nepalese side.

To get a close-up view of Mount Everest from Nepal, most travelers head to the Everest region in northeastern Nepal, specifically the Solu Khumbu district. The starting point for many treks in this region is the town of Lukla, which can be reached by a short domestic flight from Kathmandu.

From Lukla, trekkers embark on a journey through the beautiful Sagarmatha National Park, passing through various villages such as Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Gorak Shep. The trek culminates with a hike to Everest Base Camp, where climbers set up their camps before attempting to summit Mount Everest.

While reaching the summit of Mount Everest requires technical climbing skills and permits, you can still get breathtaking views of the mountain even without scaling it. The Everest Base Camp trek is a popular option for adventurers who want to experience the Himalayas up close and catch a glimpse of Mount Everest. Along the way, there are several viewpoints such as Kala Patthar (5,643 meters/18,514 feet) that offer stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Mount Everest.

It is recommended to hire a licensed guide and obtain the necessary permits before undertaking such a trek. Additionally, weather conditions and visibility can vary, so it’s best to choose a favorable time of year for Everest trekking to maximize your chances of clear views of Mount Everest.
