Itinerary

Day 1

Drive to SundariJal and hike up to Chisa Pani through Shivapuri National Park

Your short trek around Kathmandu Valley begins with a morning drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal, a popular gateway to the northern hills of the valley. The drive takes around 1 hour, passing through local villages and green outskirts of the city.

You start your walk from Sundarijal, entering the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, a protected forest area, rich in biodiversity, waterfalls and tranquil hiking pathways. The walk starts with stone steps, gradually ascending through beautiful forests, little streams and traditional Tamang communities.

As you ascend you move through lush rhododendron and oak woods, breathing in the pure mountain air and admiring the views of the neighbouring hills. After the crest, the trail becomes more easy and leads to Chisapani, a picturesque hilltop settlement with panoramic Himalayan views.

Arrive at Chisapani late afternoon where you may experience beautiful views of Langtang Himalayan range especially after sunset. It’s an ideal first day trip with its fresh wind, serene setting and rural charm.

Day 2

Early sunrise at Chisapani, hike to Nagarkot

Early in the morning, you can enjoy a peaceful sunrise experience from Chisapani, where the first light of the day gradually illuminates the Himalayan ranges, including distant views of Langtang and other surrounding peaks on clear days. The calm atmosphere and fresh mountain air make it a memorable start to the day.

After breakfast, start your trek towards Nagarkot, one of the most prominent hill stations near Kathmandu. The track takes you through wooded pathways, terraced farms and small rural villages, providing a lovely and restful walk. On the route you may view the rural life, local farming activities and lovely green sceneries on the rim of Kathmandu Valley.

As you slowly approach Nagarkot the panorama opens out to magnificent Himalayan views and undulating hills. Nagarkot is famous for its panoramic view points, especially after sunset, where on very clear days you can see a broad stretch of the Himalayan range including peaks in the Everest region.

Trek down to old Hindu temple of Changunarayan, drive back to Kathmandu

After breakfast in Nagarkot, you begin your final day of trekking with a pleasant downhill walk toward the historic valley floor. The trail passes through terraced fields, small villages, and forested paths, offering beautiful rural scenery and distant views of the Kathmandu Valley as you descend.

After walking for a few hours, you reach the ancient Hindu temple Changunarayan Temple, one of the oldest and most important heritage sites of Nepal. This UNESCO world heritage monument is devoted to Lord Vishnu and is famous for its beautiful stone carvings, pagoda style building and its deep historical value stretching back over 1,500 years. It is regarded as a masterpiece of early Nepalese art and culture.

After exploring the temple complex and learning about its religious and historical significance, you continue with a short drive back to Kathmandu. The journey takes you through Bhaktapur’s outskirts and scenic countryside before reaching the capital city.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for rest, relaxation, or optional shopping in the lively Thamel area.
