Best Season for Gorkha Pokhara Trek

The best seasons for Gorkha Pokhara Trek are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when the weather is stable, skies are clear, and mountain views are at their best.

Springtime offers blossoming rhododendrons and rich green scenery and autumn gives crisp air, good visibility, and cultural festivities in the communities along the trail.

Winter (December–February) is still possible for trekking at lower altitudes but can be cold in mornings and evenings. Monsoon (June–August) is less ideal due to rain, slippery trails, and reduced visibility, though the hills become very green and scenic.

What Makes Gorkha Pokhara Trek Special?

  • The Gorkha Pokhara Trek is special because it connects Nepal’s historical heart (Gorkha) with its most scenic city Pokhara, offering a rare combination of culture, history, rural life, and Himalayan landscapes.
  • The trek goes past traditional Gurung and Magar communities, forests, woodlands and quiet country pathways.
  • You experience the birthplace of modern Nepal in Gorkha and end the journey in the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara
  • It is also famous for its unique village experience and less congested trekking trails.

How Difficult is the Gorkha Pokhara Trek?

This trek is considered moderate in difficulty, suitable for trekkers with basic fitness. Daily walking 5-7 hours over different terrain including hills, forests and local pathways. The route is a sequence of gentle ups and downs with no technical climbs.

Altitude is still modest thus it’s easier than high altitude Himalayan trekking such as Everest Base Camp or Manaslu Circuit. It’s more about sustained walking stamina and mental preparedness than technical ability.

Permits Required for Gorkha Pokhara Trek

For the Gorkha Pokhara Trek, the following permits are generally required:

  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) for certain sections
  • TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) card
  • Local entry permits in some rural areas

These are usually arranged by trekking agencies like Skyline Treks, so trekkers do not need to handle the paperwork individually.

Safety and Precautions

The trek is generally safe, but basic precautions are necessary:

  • Walk carefully on uneven and stone trails
  • Always follow guide instructions
  • Drink plenty of water, but don’t overdo it.
  • Wear good trekking shoes
  • Be careful in wet or slippery situations
  • Respect local customs and village etiquette

  • Practice walking daily or light hike
  • Basic cardio (running, biking, swimming, etc.

  • Strengthen your legs for uphill walking

This ensures better endurance during long trekking days.

Mountain Views

The trek offers beautiful Himalayan and hill views, especially in clear weather. You may see:

The views are a mix of distant snow-capped peaks and scenic mid-hill landscapes rather than extreme high-altitude panoramas..

Altitude Sickness and Prevention

Altitude sickness is not a major concern on this trek, as the highest elevation stays around 2,200 meters.

However, basic precautions include:

  • Maintain a good walking pace
  • Drink tons of water
  • No alcohol on journey
  • Give yourself frequent breaks

Since the altitude is moderate, most trekkers complete the journey comfortably.
